LOCAL AUTHOR CONSIGNMENT

At Indie Darling, we love supporting local and independent authors, and our local author consignment program allows us to showcase more of their books. Because we receive frequent requests from authors, we’ve created this policy so expectations are clear and the process feels fair and manageable for everyone.

Here’s what you need to know before applying:

BOOK STANDARDS

To ensure quality and consistency for our readers, consignment books must meet these criteria:

  • Must have a valid ISBN.

  • Professionally printed and bound with a spine (no spiral or staple binding).

  • Title and author on cover and spine.

  • Not printed through Amazon POD, Kindle Direct Publishing, or any Amazon imprint.

  • Priced comparably to similar titles in their genre and format.

CONSIGNMENT DETAILS

  • Authors may consign 3 copies per accepted title to start. If all copies sell, additional copies may be requested at our discretion.

  • Books will be carried for up to 3 months. Extensions or renewals are offered on a case-by-case basis.

  • Authors receive 60% of the retail price per copy sold. Payments are issued by check and mailed to the author at the end of the 3-month consignment term.

  • Indie Darling decides how and where books are displayed.

  • Books may be delivered in person or mailed at the author’s expense once approved.

  • Indie Darling will handle your books with care, but we cannot be held responsible for loss, theft, or damage.

  • Please pick up unsold books within 30 days of the consignment period. After that time, we may need to donate or otherwise rehome any remaining copies.

HOW TO APPLY

  • Authors must submit a separate digital application for each title.

  • Applications are reviewed once per month. We’ll notify you of our decision via email within 30 days of your submission.

  • We enjoy meeting authors in person, but all consignment inquiries and applications will be directed to and managed through our website.

  • Please do not drop off or mail books unless specifically asked. We can’t accept unsolicited copies and can’t guarantee their return.

COMMUNICATION & PROMOTION

We ask consignment authors to post at least once on Facebook and/or Instagram that their book is available at Indie Darling. Please tag us so that we can share your post. Promoting your book’s availability at Indie Darling increases its chance of success.

A NOTE ON FEES

Many independent bookstores charge a stocking or administrative fee for consignment because managing consigned titles requires significant staff time for processing, inventory tracking, and payments. At this time, Indie Darling does not charge a stocking fee. In exchange, we ask authors to approach this process with respect and patience, recognizing that stocking indie books requires effort on our part, and we do not have the space or capacity to accept every title.

NEXT STEPS

If this policy works for you, please complete the online application form. If approved, we’ll provide a consignment agreement for you to sign before we place your book on the shelf.
